This
was our first trip of 2006. We decided to meet a friend who lives in Ft.
Lauderdale half way. OLeno seemed to be the place.
If there is one
word for me to describe OLeno it "ticks". Just walking through
the campground required me to pick several off my legs.
Oleno is very
"natural". Two loops, both with sand roads and sand
sites. Water and electric at each site with a dump station between the
two. many sites would be too small for any RV (can you believe someone
in a pop up would say that) and are only suited for a tent.
This is Florida,
so Air Conditioning is a MUST!
In all fairness,
this is a beautiful area of Florida and the park has some nice hiking
and history. The Santa Fe River goes underground in O'Leno State Park
and reemerges over three miles away in River Rise State Park as a circular
pool before resuming its journey to the Suwannee River. It's neat to see
a flowing river just disappear.
Other attractions
in the area are the Florida springs and diving in them. One of the most
famous is Ginnie
Springs.
